Welcome

Krakatoa is a seven-piece surf guitar band from Cape Town, South Africa, twanging and boinging since 2001.

Now, seen from a palm plantation high on a green hillside, Krakatoa looks peaceful and serene, with just a thin column of white or gray or on occasion black smoke easing up from its summit. But looks are deceptive: All the while the child-mountain is growing steadily and rapidly, as the elemental fires that created the world rage deep inside.

About

Krakatoa playing at Surfa Rosa in Cape Town by Laura Mcullagh

Krakatoa is a Cape Town surf guitar band playing original endless summer guitar instrumentals since 2001 along with surf standards and vocal tunes ranging from punk to psychedelia. Krakatoa is guitar players Ivan Sadler and Alan Millar, Kane Croudace on bass, Rob Fowler on trumpet and guitar, Jason Coetzee on keyboards, Alex Collette on drums, and Rich Tolsma on aerophone and sax.

Audiences expect - and get - a high energy performance from a band that exists to entertain. The band is influenced by reverb-drenched Pulp Fiction surf-guitar sound to the big brass production of The Ventures’ Hawaii 5-O to the subtle echo of The Shadows’ Apache.
